About

The Durham Region Senior (55+) Games (DRSG) district 13 is one of 37 districts operating under the umbrella of OSGA 55+ (Ontario Senior Games Association). Our district includes the municipalities of Clarington, Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax and Pickering and the townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge. The Games are organized and run by a group of community volunteers.

 

Durham Region falls within OSGA’s Central Region along with  Muskoka/Parry Sound, Hastings/Lennox/Addington/Prince Edward County, Haliburton County, Kawartha Lakes/ Peterborough/Northumberland, York District and Simcoe.

 

Durham Region Senior (55+) Games are comprised of Summer and Winter Games held annually in DurhamRegion for adults 55+ years of age. These games focus on promoting an active lifestyle in an atmosphere of fun, fellowship and friendly competition aligned with the OSGA 55+ Games' provincial focus. DRSG Summer Games were first introduced in Durham Region in the early 1990’s; separate Winter Games were introduced in 2010.

 

The Durham Region Senior (55+) Games provide an avenue for the 55+ generation to keep active and meet others who share a common recreational interest, while helping keep minds sharp and bodies in shape as one ages. This is accomplished through offering the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of summer and winter recreational events designed for all to take part in regardless of age, skill level or physical capabilities. Over 1,500 individuals ranging in age from 55 to the mid 90’s have participated in the Durham Region 55+ Games since 2010.

 

DRSG Summer Games events are held annually in April, May and June and may include Bid Euchre, Bocce, Contract Bridge, Cribbage, Darts, Duplicate Bridge, Euchre, Five Pin Bowling, Floor Shuffleboard, Golf, Horseshoes, Lawn Bowling, Nordic Walking, Prediction Walking, Pickleball, Slo-Pitch and Tennis.

 

DRSG Winter Games events are held annually in October and November and may include Badminton, Curling, Cribbage, Duplicate Bridge, Bid Euchre, Euchre, Ice Hockey, Snooker, Table Tennis, Ten Pin Bowling and Volleyball.

 

Durham Region Summer and Winter Senior (55+) Games are open to all Durham Region residents who are 55 + years of age as of December 31st of the year of the games they are participating in. District champions qualify to represent Durham at the bi-annual Ontario 55+ Summer and Winter Games.

Provincial & National Information

 

Ontario 55+ Games:

 

  • The Ontario 55+ Summer Games are held in August of odd numbered years; the Ontario 55+ Winter Games are held in February of even numbered years.

  • The first Ontario 55+ Summer Games were held in 1986; the first Ontario 55+ Winter Games were held in 2000.

 

  • In 2011 the name of the Summer Games was changed from Actifest to Ontario 55+ Summer Games; the name of the Winter Games was changed from Winterfest to Ontario 55+ Winter Games.

 

  • Since multiple events are held on the same day at the Ontario 55+ Games, district winners qualify to play in one event at the provincial games.

 

  • Gold medal winners at Ontario 55+ Games qualify for the Canada 55+ Games being held in the next even numbered year

 

Canada 55+ Games:

 

  • These bi-annual games are held in August of even numbered years

  • The first Canada 55+ games were held in 1996

  • The games include select summer events and winter indoor events

  • The venue for the bi-annual games moves across Canada.
